The Trust are delighted to announce the launch of a new, dedicated National Personal Safety Day website.

The Trust are delighted to announce the launch of a new, dedicated National Personal Safety Day website.

National Personal Safety Day, which is organised by Suzy Lamplugh Trust, is an annual event which aims to raise awareness of personal safety issues and help people to lead safer lives. This year’s StreetsAhead campaign is all about how you can improve your safety on the streets.

The event has grown tremendously over the last few years and it now has over 300 regular partner organisations that run local events to raise awareness of the day and get the campaign messages out to local residents.

The new website, www.nationalpersonalsafetyday.co.uk, gives all the information on how to get involved and how to order the campaign resources. It also enables all partners to highlight their events and activities and we hope this will encourage even more organisations and individuals to support the campaign and run their own activities.

If anyone has any comments to make about National Personal Safety Day or the website, we would love to hear from you. Please email press@suzylamplugh.org.

Suzy Lamplugh Trust is supporting the Home Office’s Teenage Relationship Abuse campaign, which aims to prevent teenagers from becoming victims and perpetrators of abusive relationships. It encourages teenagers to re-think their views of violence, abuse or controlling behaviour in relationships and directs them to places for help and advice.

The Key Messages for the campaign are:

Abuse in relationships s not normal or acceptable – if you are in an abusive relationship it’s not your fault and you do not have to stand for it.

It’s not just [physical violence, like punching or kicking, that makes a relationship abusive – if you are threatened with violence, nave no say over what you wear or who you see or speak to, or are constantly criticised, it is still abuse.

Abuse is never ok – blaming abuse on anger, jealousy, alcohol or the other person’s behaviour is not acceptable.

Help is available – if you need some support getting out f an abusive relationship or just want to talk to some

If you need support getting out of an abusive relationship or want further information about the campaign, visit www.direct.gov.uk/thisisabuse

If you end a relationship and your ex keeps contacting you against your wishes than this could be stalking and you can call the National Stalking Helpline for information and guidance on 0808 802 0300

Suzy Lamplugh Trust welcomes the Home Office’s consultation on delivering the Government's policies to cut alcohol fuelled crime and anti-social behaviour (November 2012)

Suzy Lamplugh Trust welcomes the Home Office’s consultation on delivering the Government’s policies to cut alcohol fuelled crime and anti-social behaviour (November 2012)

We applaud Government attempts to tackle binge drinking and the negative effect it has on individuals and our communities.

We believe that, while most members of the retail and alcohol industry behave responsibly towards their customers, some do not. We therefore fully support the Government’s proposed initiatives, such as a ban on multi-buy promotions and a minimum unit price, ensuring that alcohol can only be sold at a sensible price.

Alcohol is a factor in just under half of all violent crimes. It can make potential perpetrators more likely to be violent or aggressive and it can make victims more vulnerable in the event of an attack.

We believe that a reduction in problem drinking will help to reduce the risk of violence and aggression, and we fully support any measures that will help to achieve this aim.
