And here are just a few examples of what organisations around the country will be doing on National Personal Safety Day to promote the On The Homefront  safety campaign…

 

The West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority, Centro, will be carrying out a range of activities throughout the week to mark National Personal Safety Day.

Posters will be displayed on notice boards/lifts/canteen in advance to give staff information about the upcoming activities.

During the week itself, all staff will be able to access an ‘On the Homefront’ leaflet and be able to complete a Personal Safety MOT Questionnaire online.

The ‘Everyday Personal Safety’ DVD will run all week in the canteen and a stand will be manned on personal safety day itself, giving information about what Centro does to look after staff’s safety at work.

Employees will also be issued with Centro’s own guide to Personal Safety and information about the Suzy Lamplugh Trust’s Parent’s Handbook.

David Hadley from Centro said: “As a safety conscious organisation we are pleased to be able to support National Personal Safety Day as a way of helping our staff focus on this very important issue.

“We firmly believe that by taking a holistic approach towards safety we can help staff to ensure the safety of themselves and their families which in turn reduces the possibility of them having to take time off work.”

 

Denbigh Neighbourhood Watch will be promoting the On the Homefront campaign throughout National Personal Safety Day. Starting at Morrison’s at 8.30 am, we will move on later in the morning to Denbigh Town Centre. Lunchtime will see us at the lower Denbigh Schools and we will be at Ruthin Tesco and the Coop in the afternoon. To end the day,  we will be promoting the campaign at the Vale of Clwyd safety group meeting in the evening.

 

The Metropolitan Police’s Dalston Town Centre SNT in Hackney will be holding  a Crime Prevention/Personal Safety and Property Marking event in Dalston shopping centre from 1000hrs – 1300hrs. We will be targeting shoppers, in particular elderly shoppers.

We will also be conducting  surgeries at the local church, post office, banks, and conducting a leaflet drop to local shops and community centres. We will also be conducting a presentation to the elderly at their OAP meeting.

 

The Waterside Children’s Centre in Southampton will be supporting National Personal Safety Day by displaying posters and lealfets at all of our sessions both onsite and offsite to raise parents’ amd partners’ awareness.

 

   

Durham Police in Peterlea and Seaham are planning to have Crime Prevention stalls in various locations across the East Durham Area, to promote personal safety on National Personal Safety Day, with the biggest shopping areas being targeted (Peterlee Town Centre, Seaham Shopping Centre andDaltonPark).

Along side this, we will be promoting Neighbourhood Watch and the issue of Hate Crime, with the aim of getting more people aware of how they can keep safe and report any incidents of Hate Crime. We will also promoting National Personal Safety Day by sending the information and leaflets out to local NHW co-ordinators and taking them to any meetings.

PCSO’s will be utilised to help get as many posters and leaflets out into the community as possible; taking them to community meetings, local stores and uploading them onto our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

 

The Met’s Hatch Lane Safer Neighbourhood Team in Waltham Forest will be marking National Personal Safety Day on Sunday October 9th. Based in Waltham Forest, we will be bringing a Crime Prevention Bus to Highams Park BR Station, Chingford, E4 between 2 – 4pm. We will also be giving our freebies, including personal alarms, purse chains etc.

Police Officers and PCSOs will be on hand to answer any questions about personal safety.

 

North Yorkshire Police will be running a number of events on the day.

The mobile police office will be stationed outside Selby Post Office for most of the day. Officers will be on hand to discuss crime prevention and will also be visiting local supermarkets to give out crime prevention leaflets. Posters will be displayed in schools and community centres across the district and the Route 4 You bus will be visiting Saxton, Barkston Ash, Ulleskelf, Bilbrough and Appleton Roebuck, distributing safety messages and crime prevention advice.

Officers in Thirsk and Easingwold will be attending local schools to talk about bullying – verbal, physical, emotional and online. The presentations, aimed at primary school Years three to six, will be carried out throughout the week of October 10.

There will be an opportunity to meet local police officers at drop-in sessions in Tesco Filey, Morrisons Eastfield and Sainsbury’s Scarborough, from 10am to 3pm.

York Rural West Safer Neighbourhood Team will be at the Macarthur Glenn Designer Outlet in Fulford, York, between 2pm and 6pm in the Mobile Police Office. It will be a drop in session where people can come to discuss any aspect of personal safety and receive advice on how to remain safe going about their day to day life.

There will be a personal safety presentation at the Dales Care Centre in Wycar, Bedale, at 11am, covering advice for older people about bogus callers, home security, lighting, fire alarms, electric blankets and deep fat fryers. This will be followed by a visit to the Tom Hall Court residential area in South End, Bedale, at 2pm.

There will be a series of surgeries around Northallerton from 9am to 3pm, distributing leaflets, advice and security packs to the public. The Mobile Police Station will be staffed by two PCSOs, and parked in key locations around town. The locations have been selected to target elderly and vulnerable members of the community, offering reassurance and advice. Subject to confirmation, these surgeries will take place at Northallerton High Street (9am to 10.30pm); Kirk House, Kirk Road, Romanby (11am to 12pm); Rivendale, 227 Bankhead Road, Northallerton (12.30pm to 1.30pm); and The Orchards Orchard Grove, Brompton, Northallerton (2pm to 3pm).

 

East Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership are pleased to be supporting National personal Safety Day this year. We will be having an open day at the council, which will include approx 60 year 9 students from local schools coming in for presentations about the dangers of SEXting and keeping safe online (A CEOP presentation). They will also see the On the Homefront poweroint presentation.

We plan to give the visitors a tour and chat in the CCTV suite, highlighting camera coverage areas and safety. There will also be a display in the main foyer of the Municipal Buildings.

Also planned is an inter school poster competition. The winning entry will be chosen by the Mayor and it will be displayed on our website and for local shops/businesses to display too.

 

At Torpoint Community College in Cornwall, year 8 students will find out about the On The Homefront campaign during their PSHE lessons that take place during the second week of October. Students will be asked to design their own posters with tips about personal safety and these will be displayed for other students at the College to see.

 

The Basildon Community Safety Partnership (CSP), which includes agencies such as Basildon Council and Essex Police, will be on hand to offer shoppers personal safety advice and tips in the Basildon Eastgates Shopping Centre on Friday 14th October 2011. Shoppers will be able to speak to police officers and CSP representatives about personal safety and there will be a number of leaflets and goodies to take advantage of!

 

The Outside Clinic will be supporting National Personal Safety Day and promoting the On The Homefront campaign, throughout the organisation. The campaign information will be made available to all of the company’s employees around the country, with the potential to reach 200+ employees. We will be displaying posters in the Head Office and mentioning the On The Homefront safety tips in our monthly newsletter.

 

 

As part of National Personal Safety Day, Craven Community Safety Partnership are holding two personal safety drop-in events in Skipton and Settle to offer safety advice to local residents.

The events are being held on:

Monday 10th October – 10am – 3pm, outside the Town Hall Skipton in theMobile Police Unit.

Tuesday 11th October -10am – 3pm, Whitefriars Car Park Settle in the Mobile Police Unit.

The aim of this year’s National Safety campaign is to give residents useful tips on how to improve personal safety both in and around the home and when out and about. The event will be attended by members of the Community Safety Partnership including local Police Officers, Fire Officers, Councillors as well as Council staff to offer the chance to raise awareness, offer support and practical solutions to every day scenarios.

Residents will also be able to find out more about safety initiatives which have already been put in place, or are planned, in your area – e.g.Better Streetlighting; more community policing and help with home security measures.

Stacey Mitchell, Craven Community Safety Partnership Co-ordinator said “There are many simple and straightforward measures that anyone can put in place to improve their personal safety and prevent potential acts of crime. I would encourage residents to come and visit us at the drop-in events to find out more and pick up some of the free giveaways we have on offer to help protect both them and their homes. Just some examples are crime prevention stickers, property marking kits, personal alarms, reflective bands and lanyards.”

 

   

ALL 17 Barking and Dagenham Safer Neighbourhood Teams are holding events across the Borough throughout the week surrounding National Personal Safety Day, including talks in centres for the elderly, talks in youth clubs and crime prevention stalls.

All the schools officers are holding events in the Secondary Schools across the Borough spreading the message of National Personal Safety Week.

Events include:

On Saturday 08th October 2011 – Senior Citizens Day – 12noon- 5pm
Venue: Fanshawe Community Centre, Barnmead Road, Dagenham, RM9 5DX. Alibon Safer Neighbourhoods Team are hosting a Senior Citizens Event at the Fanshawe Community Centre. This was a huge success last year with people coming from across the Borough to enjoy a variety of activities.

On Monday 10th October 2011- Personal Safety on Buses – 10-3.30pm
Venue: Barking Learning Centre, Barking Town Centre. Barking Safer Transport Team are hosting a Personal Safety on Buses event at Barking Learning Centre. This will encompass a variety of issues and offer crime prevention advice, leaflets and free crime prevention products.

On Tuesday 11th October 2011 – Sponsored Run – 0630hrs onwards. Barking and Dagenham Safer Neighbourhoods Teams are completing a “Run till you Drop” event at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre to raise money for the Suzy Lamplugh Trust in support of National Personal Safety Week.

The aim of the day is for as many officers as possible to complete a relay run on treadmills from 0630am-10pm. Sponsorship is being collected from local residents and business and all proceeds will go to the trust to help their awareness campaign about Personal Safety.

On Wednesday 12th October 2011 – National Personal Safety Information Stands – 10am-3pm
Venue: Vicarage Fields, Barking Town Centre, Ground Floor. Members of Alibon SNT, Safer Transport Police, The Drugs and Alcohol Team, Domestic Violence Team and The Council will be providing personal safety advice and handouts at the shopping centre. There will be plenty of representatives of these organisations at the event to offer advice and support on any personal safety issues.

On Thursday 13th October 2011 – Internet Safety – 1pm-3pm
Venue: Dagenham Library, Heathway, Dagenham. Members of Alibon SNT will be providing advice and leaflets to the Library users on internet crimes and personal security on the internet.

Brighton and Hove City Council have organised a numberof activities across the organisation to promote National Personal Safety Day.

We are setting up information stands at two key locations where Suzy Lamplugh Trainers, Health & Safety Business Partners and representatives from the Fire Service will be on hand to provide information and advice to tenants, managers and staff on how to reduce personal safety and fire safety risks in the workplace and at home.

 At other locations across the organisation, Suzy Lamplugh trainers will be putting up posters and giving out information leaflets from the Suzy Lamplugh Trust to tenants, managers and staff to promote personal safety awareness and this year’s campaign.

Details of the campaign will be published in on the front page of our Council’s Intranet and also published in our Health & Safety Newsletter which goes out to every team and school within the organisation. A link will be provided to the Suzy Lamplugh Trust website highlighting the wide range of leaflets and information available. Details of personal safety training will also be provided. 

Managers and staff will also stand a chance of winning 2 x tickets to a show or a 1 of 10 Personal Alarm’s by completing a Personal Safety Questionnaire to find out how teams’ across the organisation are managing personal safety risks. 

 

Following on from our success in previous years, Wokingham Borough Council are once again working with our Community Safety Partners – Adult Safeguarding Services, Community Wardens, local PCSO’s from Thames Valley Police, council employees and councilors,Trading Standards, Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service and Berkshire Womens Aid to promote awareness of personal safety both at home and in the community.

 We will have stands distributing information in the morning at Tesco’s and Morrisons supermarkets and in the afternoon/early evening at both Wokingham and Winnersh Train Stations.

Eastbourne Neighbourhood Watch Association will have a Stand in our local Tesco’s where we shall be distributing 500 of the On the Homefront leaflets and discussing with the public any personal safety issues they may have.

 Another 2,500 leaflets are to be inserted into our quarterly newsletter and distributed to the most vulnerable (elderly/disabled)  members of our 11,000 members across Eastbourne.

Vision West Notts (West Nottinghamshire College) will be supporting National Personal Safety Day and promoting the ‘On The Homefront’ campaign.

The campaign information will be made available to all of the college’s employees using their staffnet homepage and displaying posters at each of their eight sites to promote the day and to potentially communicate this to 1200 staff and 20,000 students.  

 

 

West Midlands Police – Members of Birmingham North Local Policing unit will be available on the Erdington High Street and Sutton Coldfield town centre where they will be speaking to members of the public and be giving advice on personal safety and crime prevention. Officers will be distributing leaflets and posters with all the relevant information. We will also be promoting Neighbourhood Watch and informing the public of how they can set up their own scheme or join an existing scheme.

North Yorkshire County Council are pleased to be supporting National Personal Safety Day this year.

We are promoting the “On the Homefront” campaign using technology via our internal intranet and have made the presentation, posters and leaflets available to staff to download and/or print off for display in their own office locations.  We have included links to the SLT website so staff can undertake the Personal Safety MOT Quiz.

In the coming week, we are also holding Personal Safety “Roadshows”  to raise awareness of personal safety issues and to promote our new corporate personal safety policy, procedure and guidance launched earlier this year.  The council’s road safety team are also joining in these events with talks by the driver training officer on Safer Driving for Work.
